Plant Features

Amish Paste Tomato Plants produce sweet, juicy fruits with few seeds and a full, rich flavor that doesn't cook away. They are excellent for making tomato sauces, salsas, or tomato paste, justifying their namesake. They are also a versatile addition to salads, sandwiches, or simply eaten fresh straight from the vine. This heirloom tomato is thought to have originated in the late 1800's with the Amish people in Wisconsin. The tomatoes are a deep red color and have a slightly irregular shape, ranging from plum-shaped to oxheart-shaped, averaging 8-12 ounces in weight. With their large size and flavorful flesh, Amish Paste tomatoes are a valuable addition to any home garden.

Growing Tips: Watch for green caterpillars that will eat the leaves and fruits, hand pick and destroy as you find them. To prevent blight and other foliar diseases, it is important to avoid watering the leaves and to use Serenade Garden Disease Control or a copper fungicide as needed. Avoid planting in areas that, potatoes, peppers, and eggplants were grown the previous year.

Grew Amish Paste for the first time last year, second year ordering from GrowJoy. Plants did not need hardening like those from other vendors. Fruits were huge, solid and with few seeds. Flavor was excellent. My favorite for BLT's and canning.

So much potential!

My entire order was shipped with a care, and the plants clearly show the same kind of care was taken to grow them. I was so excited for this plant in particular, it was already sturdy and established when it arrived so I just knew it was going to be a fast grower. I was definitely proven right in a couple weeks! Unfortunately, it looks like its succumbing to curly top virus. It's about 2.5 ft tall and hasn't/won't set bloosoms. It's a total bummer. I'm not entirely sure if it was infected before it arrived or after transplanting, regardless though, I'm going to give it another shot!

Amish Paste

This plant really surprised me. And boy did it take off I had to cut bamboo to tie up this plant it grew and grew 14 feet tall with the tomatoes like a hand grenade and very tasty

Get a big pot

Within a month of arriving on my doorstep, these two plants are in good shape. I put one in a 20” pot and it has doubled in size and has buds already. I put the other in a 12” pot and it’s more sluggish and smaller.

Arrived quickly and in good health
