Australis Baptisia Plants produce long flower spikes, decked out in shades of violet-blue. It is an excellent choice for sunny garden spots, regardless where you live and is equally attractive as fresh cuttings or dried for more lasting arrangements. False indigo plants perform best on full sun locations, though they do tolerate partial shade. They are attractive in beds and borders and useful for adding structure among other plants. They tolerate poor soils, clay soil and even rocky soil, and they are drought resistant. Baptisia plants attract butterflies for the nectar and seed eating wild birds for the dried seed pods.
Companion Planting: Euphorbia, Rudbeckia, Saliva
"Good Plants Packaged Well"

Comment: The healthy plants came promptly and in fine condition, having been packaged with care. That evening, planted them in my native prairie garden here on the farm. (Some day I hope to bring back the western meadow larks of my childhood.) To counter my black thumb, I thoroughly watered in and mulched the plants and surrounded them with chicken wire against the rabbits. After five weeks, so far, so good. Crossing my fingers—it’s up to me, now.

"Very Drought Tolerant"
Timothy E. on 11/6/2015 3:50:08 PM
Comment: I ordered four Australis Baptisia plants from GrowJoy last spring. They were very healthy but also very spindly. I wasn't sure how they would do, but now at the end of their first growing season they have filled out very nicely and their stems have thickened and hardened off. I only lost one, which I figure isn't too bad. I didn't water them much but they have proven to be very drought tolerant. I'm looking forward to how they will look by next spring.

Comment: My Australis Baptisia Plants weren't quite as large as the Purple Smoke Baptisia Plants, byt they still arrived in great condition and were well packed. The stems were already hardened off and ready to be planted outdoors. I have great expectations for all of the Baptisia plants I purchased from GrowJoy.
