Night Before Christmas Hosta is an award winning, clump forming hosta. Producing white and dark olive green, 8-inch leaves. A clutter of tubular, pale purple flowers appear on tall 34-inch stems in mid to late summer. Night Before Christmas ships as a bare root. We like growing from bare roots because they establish quickly, become twice the size of a potted plant in the first season, and eliminate the need for plastic pots (a win for the environment).
Common Names: funkia, funkias, giboshi, plantain lily
Hosta Companion Plants: Astilbe, Dicentra, Ferns, Geranium, Grasses, Helleborus, Hemerocallis, Iris
Night Before Christmas Hosta Plant Care Instructions: Soil should be kept moist during the early part of the season. Once the summer heat sets in, the soil can dry slightly between waterings. In late fall, after frost has turned the foliage brown, it should be cut back to the ground. Roots should be divided every 3-5 years. Early fall or early spring is an excellent time to divide. Spring is also the best time to apply one application of liquid fertilizer.
