Plant Features

Quartz® Red Penstemon features stems that are topped in early summer with scarlet red, tubular flowers. Heat and drought tolerant, this one will bloom all season long! Plants do best in full sun locations and will tolerate nutrient poor soil, even gravely soils; must be very well drained. Penstemon are exceptional at attracting bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinators. They are seldom browsed by deer or rabbits.

Quartz Red Penstemon Plant Care Instructions: There is very little that needs done for this plant besides watering if the plant starts looking droopy. Do not mulch penstemon. If you want to attract songbirds, do not remove the spent flowers as they enjoy the dried seed heads. It is best to wait till the new shoots start showing in the spring before removing the the dead stalks.

Comment: Bought 3 of these. I hve other Penstemon varieties and its a really good plant and does well in 7b. All three are in the ground and thought they did not flower this yeaer, they appear healthy. They should survive winter in 7b and I hope to see red blooms in the xoming year. Also, Penstemon are easy to grow from stem cuttings, so another plus for this plant.
