Spent flowers should be cut back all the way down to the first set of attractive leaves. Any leaves that develop brown tips during the summer can be cut off just below the browning area. This is a natural process with iris. Do not mulch. Keep dried leaves cleaned out of the plant. All foliage should be cut back to the ground in early fall. Plants should be divided every 3-5 years.
