Plant Features

Star of the North Hemerocallis is uniquely marked daylily that is as hardy as it is beautiful. Triangular, pale yellow petals and marked by wine hued inner petals and finely lined red edging, Flowers begin to bloom in midsummer and continue through fall on plants that are quite heavily budded. Daylilies are tough perennials that can survive less than ideal conditions including poor, dry soil, slopes, and planting under Black Walnut trees. Star of the North ships as a bare root. We like growing from bare roots because they establish quickly, become twice the size of a potted plant in the first season, and eliminate the need for plastic pots (a win for the environment).

Common Names: day lilies, daylily, day lily

Hemerocallis Companion Plants: Crocosmia, Geranium, Grasses, Nepeta

Star of the North Hemerocallis Plant Care: Besides apply water if the plant starts looking droopy (which is practically never), there is not much else this plant needs. The flower stalks can be cut back after the plant is done blooming for the season. Dividing daylilies is not necessary unless you don't want them spreading. Division can be done in early fall when the foliage is being cut back to the ground.
