Westcountry™ Red Rum Lupine Plants produce beautiful pink and red, pea-like blossoms with white flecks. Rising elegantly above palmate foliage, this is one early summer bloomer you'll wish you had more of! Lupins attract hummingbirds, butterflies, bees and it is a host plant for the Silvery blue butterfly and other blues. Deer and rabbits avoid it while browsing.
Common Names: lupin, lupinus
Lupine Companion Plants: Geranium, Roses, Salvia
Lupine Plant Care Instructions: Plants do best with consistently moist, well-drained soils. Adding 2-3 inches of mulch will help retain moisture and reduce watering times. Northern gardeners should plant them in full sun, while filtered sunlight or afternoon shade is best in warmer or Southern gardens. The individual spent blooms should be remove from the flowering stalk to keep it producing more flowers. Lupins can be cut back to the ground once the foliage starts yellowing at the end of the season.

Comment: Due to my now 92 yo father's health conditions, planting my order which was received in late Spring, these and my other plants sat on the driveway with the only attention being watering until this week (eo July!). They are small (expected) but very healthy! So pleased they are healthy and growing in spite of the neglect. They should be well established by the end of the growing season and maybe (?) flower next year.

Comment: Ordered two of these Red Rum Lupine plants and they arrived healthy and very good size. So happy! They will need to grow a bit before producing bloom stems but the wait will be worth it!! Thank you Grow Joy!
