Centaurea montana 'Amethyst Dream', commonly known as the Amethyst Dream Centaurea or the Amethyst Dream Cornflower, is a breathtaking perennial that adds a touch of elegance and charm to any garden. This cultivar is a member of the Asteraceae family and is native to Europe.

The Amethyst Dream Centaurea features exquisite, large, deep purple flowers with a slightly lighter center, creating a mesmerizing and dreamy appearance. The flowers are held atop strong stems and are surrounded by lance-shaped, grayish-green leaves. The foliage remains attractive even when the plant is not in bloom.

This perennial typically grows to a height of 18 to 22 inches (46 to 56 cm) and spreads to a width of 16 to 24 inches (46 to 61 cm). It forms a compact, mounded shape, making it an excellent choice for borders, cottage gardens, or as a focal point in mixed perennial beds.

Amethyst Dream Centaurea prefers well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade. It is relatively hardy and can adapt to various growing conditions, making it a versatile choice for many gardens. This plant is also drought-tolerant once established. Deer Resistance Rating: C - (Occasionally Severely Damaged, according to Rutgers University).

When selecting companion plants for Amethyst Dream Centaurea, consider pairing it with other perennials that have complementary colors and textures. Achillea, Gaillardia, and Penstemon are all excellent choices that will create a harmonious and visually striking garden composition.

In addition to its ornamental value, Centaurea montana has been used in traditional medicine for its potential anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties. The flowers are also known to attract butterflies and other pollinators to the garden, making it a valuable addition to any eco-friendly landscape.

To ensure the best performance of your Amethyst Dream Centaurea, regularly deadhead the spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming throughout the summer. This plant is relatively low-maintenance and does not require frequent division, making it an easy-to-care-for addition to your garden. After the first frost, cut the stems back to about 2-3 inches above the ground and apply a layer of mulch 2-3 inches deep.

Experience the enchanting beauty of Amethyst Dream Centaurea in your own garden. With our No-Risk Guarantee, you can trust that every plant we ship will arrive in excellent condition, ready to thrive in its new home. Order now and add this captivating perennial to your collection!

Amethyst Dream Centaurea Plant

I do not have any of these in my flower beds and wanted to try my hand on them so anxious to watch them grow

Healthy Plants!

I ordered the mountain bluet plant along with two other pollinator plants. They arrived in a single box and in good condition. I was excited to see live plants available from GrowJoy as I have had mixed luck with bare root plants I received from other companies. I transplanted the three plants I purchased from GrowJoy into larger planters and all three are thriving. I'm very pleased with my purchase and plan to buy from GrowJoy again.
