Honeoye Strawberry Plants

Honeoye Strawberry Plant is a very productive, early-season berry yielding shiny, larger-than-average strawberries with amazingly rich red coloration, inside and out. This June-bearing strawberry plant bears strawberries over a longer period than many varieties and is mildly salt- tolerant. This berry is great for freezing and for pies!

Planting Instructions:

• - Can be transplanted spring or fall

Soil Preparation:

• - Ideal soil pH: 5.5-6.8
• - Add compost and ensure soil is well-draining

Watering Specifics:

• - Water deeply and consistently
• - Mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds

Fertilizer Type:

• - Year of planting: Use a balanced fertilizer at planting, then again 8 weeks later, then in again in August if spring planted
• - Fruiting years: Do not fertilize till after harvest, then use a balanced fertilizer, do so again in August

Pruning and Training:

• - Pinch off first-year blooms to encourage strong root development
• - Within a week post-harvest, mow or hand-trim plants to leave just 1-2 inches above the crowns. Clear away debris, fertilize, and ensure regular watering throughout summer

Pollination:

• - Self-pollinating, but bees can increase yield

Additional Pest Management:

• - Watch for slugs and birds
• - Use straw mulch to deter pests

Harvesting Indicators:

• - Harvest when fruits are fully red
• - Pick every other day during peak season
